The limiting factor of surface sounding is the foundation soil. Depending on the degree of exposure to ferruginous objects, whether from fill, structures, or ferruginous source rock such as basalts, the validity of the magnetic data is reduced. Georadar images are also influenced by soil factors such as soil moisture, subsoil structure and clay content.
The areas investigated in Hesse are passed on by us to the Darmstadt Regional Council.
The definition is a matter for the federal states and describes the depth to which munitions can be found. This is max. 6 m below the level at the end of the war.
If sufficient depth clearance cannot be achieved by surface probing, greater depths can be probed by means of measuring boreholes. Pile driving and drilling operations in particular cause pressures far beyond the actual drilling depth. Shoring beams, sheet pile shafts, vibrating stopend columns and similar measures are drilled off as a matter of principle.
